Before the current series, Peru issued several earlier generations of Sol and Nuevo Sol (S/.) banknotes.
These withdrawn notes include older portraits, classic engraving styles, and designs reflecting Peru’s economic development and cultural identity throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In 2015, the currency name officially changed from Nuevo Sol back to Sol, and older issues were gradually replaced with clearer layouts, stronger security features, and updated designs.
