Modern Macedonian Denar (MKD)

Current Series

The Macedonian Denar (MKD) is the official currency of North Macedonia, issued by the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia.

The modern series features prominent cultural figures, national landmarks, and artistic motifs that reflect the country’s rich heritage and identity.

Current notes incorporate advanced security features, updated colour schemes, and durable materials designed for long‑term circulation.

These designs are widely recognised across the region and remain the primary legal tender throughout North Macedonia.

Outdated Macedonian Denar Notes

Withdrawn Currency

Before the introduction of the current enhanced‑security series, North Macedonia issued earlier generations of Denar banknotes.

These withdrawn notes include older portraits, classic engraving styles, and designs reflecting the country’s early post‑independence period.

As the National Bank modernised the currency, older issues were gradually replaced with clearer layouts, stronger security features, and more durable materials.

Although no longer used in everyday transactions, earlier Denar notes still appear in stored belongings, travel documents, and long‑kept personal items.

At Thecurrencycounter.co.uk, we accept a wide range of outdated Macedonian Denar notes, including early paper issues, transitional designs, and denominations no longer seen in circulation.

If your specific note isn’t listed on our site, you’re welcome to get in touch — we may still be able to help.
