Outdated Austrian Schilling (ATS)

Pre‑Euro Banknotes

Before Austria adopted the euro in 2002, the Austrian Schilling (ATS) served as the nation’s official currency for much of the 20th century.

Issued by the Oesterreichische National bank, Schilling banknotes were known for their elegant designs featuring prominent Austrian scientists, composers, and cultural figures, along with detailed engravings that reflected the country’s artistic heritage.

Although the Schilling has been fully withdrawn from circulation, many of these notes still retain redeemable value.

Older series — including mid‑century issues and later security‑enhanced designs — remain widely collected and continue to be exchanged today.

At Thecurrencycounter.co.uk, we accept a broad range of outdated Austrian Schilling notes, even if they are worn, from older series, or no longer commonly recognised.

If you don’t see your specific note listed, you’re welcome to contact us — we may still be able to assist.
